Celebrate Arbor Week

***Due to site and weather conditions and the impact that they could have on safety and enjoyment by our volunteers, the tree planting scheduled for Saturday morning at Barnett Field Splash Pad has been cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Arbor Week is the celebration of trees and the benefits that they provide to our community, from shading our homes and streets to purifying the air and water and improving our quality of life! Edmond celebrates with events throughout the last full week of March, which falls during the week of March 24th-30th in 2019.

Celebrate Arbor Week

City Council Recognition

2019 Arbor Week presentations will take place at the City Council meeting on March 25th.  Presentations will include the Arbor Week Proclamation, recognition of City of Edmond as a Tree City USA, recognition of Edmond Electric as a Tree Line USA, and recognition of the 1st-3rd Place Best in Show winners of the Arbor Day Art Contest.

Arbor Day Art Show

The Arbor Day Art Show puts on display the first-third place and honorable mention Arbor Day Art Contest pieces from each participating Edmond school. Using the theme "Trees in Our Town", students create artwork surrounding their interpretations of the community’s trees. Artwork for the 2019 Arbor Day Art Show will be on display at the Edmond Historical Society & Museum from March 16th - April 27th. Visitors of the art show can enter a drawing to receive a tree throughout the duration of the exhibit.

Arbor Week Volunteer Events

Urban Forestry hosts volunteer opportunities during Arbor Week, including a large tree planting event that concludes the celebration on the Saturday of Arbor Week.  This year's events are shown below.  Click the event name to sign up to volunteer.
With all events, we encourage volunteers to wear close toed shoes, comfortable clothing, and sun protection. Tools are provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own. Bring your own reusable water bottle (Urban Forestry will provide water jugs for refills). Pick up a pair of Urban Forestry work gloves, or bring the ones you received at a past event!

Celebrate Arbor Week at Home Too!

Arbor Week is not just for City sponsored activities. The Urban Forestry Department encourages all Edmond residents to celebrate Oklahoma Arbor Week by planting trees at their homes for energy savings, beautification, erosion prevention, wildlife habitat, and numerous other reasons. View Planting a Tree to learn more about proper planting technique.
