Celebrate Arbor Week

About

Arbor Week is the celebration of trees and the benefits that they provide to our community, from shading our homes and streets to purifying the air and water and improving our quality of life! Edmond celebrates with events throughout the last full week of March, which falls during the week of March 26th-31st this year.

Celebrate Arbor Week
Thank you to the 2018 Arbor Week sponsors and partners: Edmond Historical Society and Museum, Citizens Bank of Edmond, Edmond Public Schools, and Edmond Visual Arts Commission.

City Council Recognition

Arbor Week presentations will take place this year at the City Council meeting on March 26th.  Presentations will include the Arbor Week Proclamation, recognition of City of Edmond as a Tree City USA, recognition of Edmond Electric as a Tree Line USA (presented by Mark Bays, Oklahoma's Urban Forestry Coordinator), and recognition of the 1st-3rd Place Best in Show winners of the Arbor Day Art Contest.

Arbor Day Art Show

The Arbor Day Art Show puts on display the first-third place and honorable mention Arbor Day Art Contest pieces from each participating Edmond school. Using the theme "Trees in Our Town", students create artwork surrounding their interpretations of the community’s trees. Artwork for the 2018 Arbor Day Art Show will be on display at the Edmond Historical Society & Museum from March 17th through the month of April. Visitors of the art show can enter a drawing to receive a tree throughout the duration of the exhibit.

Arbor Week Volunteer Events

Urban Forestry hosts volunteer opportunities during Arbor Week, including a large tree planting event that concludes the celebration on the Saturday of Arbor Week.  See the links below for information about this year's community volunteer events and sign up to volunteer:
With all events, we encourage volunteers to wear close toed shoes, comfortable clothing, and sun protection. Some tools will be available, but if volunteers would like to bring their own, they are welcome to! Urban Forestry will provide bottled water and work gloves (though we encourage past volunteers to bring the work gloves they received through previous events!)

Celebrate Arbor Week at Home Too!

Arbor Week is not just for City sponsored activities. The Urban Forestry Department encourages all Edmond residents to celebrate Oklahoma Arbor Week by planting trees at their homes for energy savings, beautification, erosion prevention, wildlife habitat, and numerous other reasons. View Planting a Tree to learn more about proper planting technique.
